Miss Texas Girls Take over Holiday in the Park

An idea I had this year was to try and create opportunities for the girls competing for Miss Texas and Miss Teen Texas to get to know each other better. I have found that its very hard to cultivate relationships during the competition because of the stress everyone is under. The first "get to know you" event was an evening at 6 Flags Over Texas in Arlington to celebrate the season at Holiday in the Park.

What was our favorite ride? The SNOW HILL of course!

Kayla S.T.A.M.P.'s out Bullies

My second appearance as Miss Fort Worth 2011 had me traveling to Eastern Hills Elementary School for an anti-bullying pep rally! This event was kicking off the new program by Fort Worth ISD to help educate and eliminate bullying in Fort Worth schools, starting on an elementary school level. The pep-rally was covered by local newspapers and several local television stations. It was a thrill! (although very cold! It was outside on one of the coldest days of the year!) But the cold didn't dampen the students enthusiasm.

Take a look!

First Appearance! Nov 30, 2010

My first appearance as Miss Fort Worth 2011 was a true honor. I was invited to speak at the Optimist Club of Fort Worth's monthly meeting. The optimist club is a group of men and women dedicated to being a friend of the youth, and work to provide opportunities for disadvantaged youth to grow and succeed. It was my honor to speak about my platform of Kayla's Heroes, based on my children's book, Kayla's Cape.

The organization inspired me to continue working with children not only on self esteem and bullying prevention, but on creating opportunities in which children from every background can succeed. The optimist club and the Miss America Organizations work diligently to help better the lives of children. I am so blessed that this was my inaugural appearance as Miss Fort Worth 2011.

Miss Fort Worth 2011

Hello Everyone!

I am so excited and blessed to be representing the city of Fort Worth as Miss Fort Worth. The Miss Fort Worth Organization has been very successful at helping their contestants not only become Miss Texas, but in helping them become the young women they strive to be. The Miss Fort Worth Organization is a local preliminary with the Miss America Organization, and is a qualifier for Miss Texas in July. I will be competing as Miss Fort Worth in Arlington, TX with smart, beautiful and talented women from around the state of Texas for the job of Miss Texas 2011.

My personal platform is called Kayla's Heroes. As Miss Fort Worth I will strive to help children who are the victims of bullying find creative outlets to deal with their emotions. Kayla's Heroes are encouraged to express themselves through music, art, dancing, creative writing and volunteering. Kayla's Heroes are proud sponsors of Children's Miracle Network and the Miss Fort Worth Organization.

The Miss Fort Worth competition was a whirlwind of activity! Orientation started early in the morning followed by rehearsals. Shortly after lunch the Miss Fort Worth interviews were set to start. I was 8th in the group lineup, and as I walked in the judges were very relaxed and ready to have a fun interview.

After interviews it was time to get ready for the Miss Fort Worth show!! The dressing rooms were like an icebox so everyone was coming back from dinner with robes and coats to keep warm!

With everyone dressed and ready to go we could all tell it was going to be a fun but crazy night!

The show went by very fast! There were some special guests who came and made the Miss Fort Worth competition extra special. Faith Bates: Miss Fort Worth 2009, Kristin Blair: Miss Fort Worth 2008 and Miss Texas 2009, and Ashley Melnick: Miss Fort Worth 2010 and Miss Texas 2010 all sang their songs that won them the talent awards at Miss Texas. After all that excitement it was time to announce the new Miss Fort Worth 2011!
